Project Title: Zero Energy House Development and Comparison Study

Scope

The University of Nevada—Las Vegas Zero Energy House (ZEH) Development and Comparison Study was launched in November 2005. The Las Vegas Zero Energy Home is located in "The Vinings" development in the southwestern part of Las Vegas. The 1,610 square foot home is part of a 146 house development. Home prices range from $340,000 up to $450,000 for larger models.

Objectives

The Zero Energy Home is located next door to a conventional home, both of which will be heavily monitored over a period of 18 months. At the end of the test period, a comparative analysis will be conducted to determine the performance of the Zero Energy Home. Predictive models of this innovative research project estimate a nearly zero net draw from the electrical grid over the period of the year.

Both homes are being used as functional model homes for the duration of the project and are open to the public.
